Note the initials on the chip--chips were made by hand.
 
Serrated edged edge chips are today used by ladies to wind thread around.

Another  type of Loo counter.I bought most of mine in London in 1979 paying 10 pence or so; in the U.S. dealers have offered them for many dollars. An Ebay dealer offered a round Loo chip that had been made into a pendant in August, 2010 for $565.
